Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit review: convenient for Semrush users, thin for the price

Semrush's AI Visibility Toolkit: $99/month per user for 25 daily prompts. Rubric score, which engines it covers, and when a dedicated tracker is better.

Our take

If your SEO already lives in Semrush, the AI Visibility Toolkit is the low-friction way to start: same login, prompt research next to keyword research, and AI checks inside the Site Audit you already run. On its own merits it's expensive. $99 a month per user buys 25 tracked prompts, documented on ChatGPT and Google AI Mode, which is the highest price per prompt we found. Other engines show up only in weekly Brand Performance reports. If you're not a Semrush customer, a dedicated tracker does more for less.

We read Semrush's knowledge base articles for the toolkit and scored it on our rubric. Semrush's main pricing page wouldn't load for our research tools, so the figures come from the knowledge base. We didn't use the toolkit for this review. Checked November 1, 2026.

What the toolkit includes

Semrush lists six tools in the AI Visibility Toolkit:

  • Visibility Overview and Competitor Research: how your brand and rivals show up across AI answers.
  • Prompt Research: what people may ask AI about a topic, with 1,000 daily queries. This is the toolkit's most distinctive piece, and it maps onto how SEO teams already work from keyword lists.
  • Brand Performance: how AI answers describe one domain, refreshed weekly. Semrush's AI visibility features article says it covers Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini.
  • Prompt Tracking: 25 prompts you choose, tracked daily. Semrush names ChatGPT and AI Mode as examples and doesn't publish a full engine list.
  • AI Search Site Audit: AI-specific checks in Site Audit for up to 100 pages, such as whether AI crawlers are blocked.

The base plan also allows one project, 300 daily queries in AI Analysis reports and 10 CSV exports a day.

$99 a month per user: each extra user needs their own $99 licence. Sold standalone or added to an annual SEO Toolkit plan. Source: semrush.com/kb/1493-ai-visibility-toolkit, checked Nov 1, 2026. Prices in USD.

The per-user licensing is the detail that catches teams out. Semrush says that to share access in a corporate account you add "another license ($99) for each subuser", and limits aren't shared. A three-person team pays $297 a month for the toolkit. Peec, Otterly and AthenaHQ all include unlimited seats.

To track 75 prompts, one user pays $99 + $60 = $159 a month. Peec's $95 Starter tracks 50 prompts on three engines with unlimited seats.

If you're shopping for both SEO and AI tools, Semrush One bundles them with 50, 100 or 200 tracked prompts by tier. The knowledge base doesn't give those prices.

Weighted for a small business buying its first tool. Scored from published pricing and documentation, checked Nov 1, 2026; not from hands-on testing. How we score

Semrush scores well on insight because Prompt Research and the Site Audit checks are genuinely useful context that pure trackers lack. It scores low on cost, and middling on coverage and method: Semrush documents its refresh (daily tracking, weekly Brand Performance) and lists five engines for Brand Performance, but names only ChatGPT and AI Mode for daily prompt tracking and doesn't say whether answers come from the consumer interfaces or APIs.

The engine gap

For a small business, the engine question matters more than the price. Daily tracking of your own prompts is documented only for Google AI Mode and ChatGPT; Perplexity, Gemini and AI Overviews appear in weekly Brand Performance reports, and Copilot isn't mentioned. Customers also meet AI answers in Google AI Overviews (which appear on ordinary Google searches), Perplexity and Copilot, which is grounded in Bing. Our explainer on how each assistant chooses sources shows why they don't move together: ChatGPT's citations overlap Google's top 10 only about 8% of the time in Ahrefs' study, against 28.6% for Perplexity. Tracking two engines daily and inferring the rest isn't safe.

Strengths and weaknesses

Where it's strong

  • Prompt research and competitor research alongside tracking
  • AI search checks inside Site Audit catch blocked crawlers and similar issues
  • One login if your SEO already lives in Semrush

Where it's weaker

  • 25 prompts for $99 is the highest price per prompt we found
  • Prompt tracking is documented only for ChatGPT and Google AI Mode; other engines appear in weekly Brand Performance reports
  • No trial, and every user needs a separate licence

Who should pick something else

  • You're not on Semrush. Otterly ($29, four engines) or Peec ($95, three of your choice) track more engines for less.
  • You're on Ahrefs instead. Brand Radar is the equivalent there, with a different model: a huge pre-built prompt index rather than a small tracked list. See Semrush vs Ahrefs Brand Radar.
  • Your team is more than one person. Per-user licences add up quickly.

Alternatives

  • Otterly.AI$29/moA single business or consultant tracking its own name and a few competitors.
  • Peec AI$95/moAgencies and in-house teams tracking a few brands or markets, who want daily data and a tidy UI.
  • Scrunch$300/moMulti-location and mid-size brands that want prompt tracking and agent analytics in one tool.
  • AthenaHQ$295/moBrands that need many engines, including Grok, DeepSeek and Mistral, and can budget by usage.
  • ProfoundCustomLarge brands and enterprise marketing teams with budget and someone to act on the data.
  • Ahrefs Brand Radar$199/moSEO teams and agencies on Ahrefs doing competitive and market research.
  • cite-met (ours)$60/moSmall businesses rebuilding or moving their site who want hosting and AI crawler data in one place.

We publish Three Impact and own cite-met, which is listed above. It's a hosting platform with AI crawler analytics, a different job from Semrush's prompt tracking.
