Profound review: the enterprise AI visibility platform, and why small businesses can skip it

Profound tracks up to 9 AI engines, adds agent analytics and an AI marketer, and publishes no paid price. Rubric score, the free trial, and who should buy it.

Our take

Profound is the most complete platform we compared and the least suited to a small business. It tracks up to nine engines, includes agent analytics, ChatGPT Shopping and an "AI Marketer" that drafts work for approval, and it's raised $155 million to build more. But there is no published price for any paid plan, the free trial's prompts are chosen for you, and the product is built for enterprise teams with someone to act on it. A small business gets more from Otterly at $29 and a free access check.

What Profound does

Profound describes itself as "an agentic marketing platform". Under that label are several products:

  • Answer Engine Insights: how assistants describe your category and brand, a visibility score per platform, citation analytics, sentiment, and a FactCheck tool for misinformation about you.
  • Prompt Volumes: estimates of what people ask AI, which Profound says draws on more than two billion real prompts from double-opt-in consumer panels. This is unusual: most trackers can tell you what an assistant answered, not how often anyone asked.
  • Agent Analytics: which AI bots crawl your pages, cite them and send visitors, collected at the CDN or server level. Profound says it can tell real AI bots from spoofed ones.
  • Shopping: product visibility in ChatGPT Shopping at SKU level.
  • Agents and AI Marketer: an assistant that "identifies the work worth doing, drafts it, and pings you for approval", plus agents that produce content from templates.

The company announced a $96 million Series C at a $1 billion valuation in February 2026, SiliconANGLE reported, bringing total funding to $155 million, and cited more than 700 enterprise customers.

The pricing page lists only the free trial and custom Enterprise pricing. A self-serve agency plan is mentioned in its FAQ without a price. Earlier self-serve tiers ($99 Starter, $399 Growth, as Peec described them in January 2026) are no longer listed. Source: tryprofound.com/pricing, checked Nov 1, 2026. Prices in USD.

This is the biggest practical difference from every other tool in our dataset. Profound used to sell self-serve tiers: in January 2026 Peec's comparison page listed a $99 Starter (ChatGPT only) and a $399 Growth plan. Neither appears on Profound's pricing page now. What's left is a free trial and "Custom" Enterprise, plus an Agency Growth plan mentioned in the FAQ ("400 credits per month per client workspace") with no price.

For an enterprise buyer that's normal. For a small business it means you can't know the cost without a sales process, and the sales process is pointed at much larger accounts.

Weighted for a small business buying its first tool. Scored from published pricing and documentation, checked Nov 1, 2026; not from hands-on testing. How we score

On a rubric weighted for an enterprise team, Profound would likely top our table: coverage, insight and agent analytics are all 5s. Our rubric weights cost and self-serve at 40% combined because we're scoring for a small business, and there Profound scores 1 and 2.

Profound's public pages say less about method than Otterly's, Peec's or Ahrefs'. They state that tracking is daily and list the engines, but don't explain whether answers come from the consumer interfaces or from APIs. Ask before you sign; the answer matters, because studies of API versus app answers find they differ substantially.

The Agent Analytics side is clearer: it reads your traffic at the CDN or server, which is the only place AI crawlers can be seen, since they don't run the JavaScript that ordinary analytics tags depend on. That's the same reason our own Observatory data comes from server logs.

Strengths and weaknesses

Where it's strong

  • Widest engine list we found, plus ChatGPT Shopping tracking
  • Agent Analytics at the CDN or server level, included on the trial
  • Agents and an "AI Marketer" that draft and propose the work, not just report

Where it's weaker

  • No published price: you need a sales call to learn what it costs
  • The trial's prompts are chosen for you and can't be customised
  • Built for enterprise teams; far more than one small business needs

Who should pick something else

  • Small businesses. Otterly ($29) or Peec ($95) answer "does ChatGPT name me?" for a fraction of any enterprise contract.
  • Teams that want a price before a demo. Scrunch publishes $300 and $500 plans with agent monitoring included, and a 7-day trial without a card. See Profound vs Scrunch.
  • Agencies running many small clients. Peec's unlimited seats and per-project tiers are easier to resell. See Profound vs Peec AI.

Alternatives

  • Otterly.AI$29/moA single business or consultant tracking its own name and a few competitors.
  • Peec AI$95/moAgencies and in-house teams tracking a few brands or markets, who want daily data and a tidy UI.
  • Scrunch$300/moMulti-location and mid-size brands that want prompt tracking and agent analytics in one tool.
  • AthenaHQ$295/moBrands that need many engines, including Grok, DeepSeek and Mistral, and can budget by usage.
  • Ahrefs Brand Radar$199/moSEO teams and agencies on Ahrefs doing competitive and market research.
  • Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit$99/moTeams already on Semrush who want AI visibility in the same reports.
  • cite-met (ours)$60/moSmall businesses rebuilding or moving their site who want hosting and AI crawler data in one place.

We own cite-met, listed above, and publish this site. cite-met shows AI crawler activity per page for sites it hosts, which overlaps with one part of Profound (Agent Analytics) and none of the rest.
